Shock

by

Forensic nurses need to be familiar with shock, also known as cardiovascular collapse. They need to know what causes the body to go into shock and what happens in the body during this condition. There may be lasting evidence of shock in a person that experienced myocardial damage, significant loss of blood volume from a gunshot wound, or a microbial infection from a fungus before their death. Septic shock accounts for over 200,000 deaths in the United States each year and is caused by the spread of an infection. Forensic nurses and doctors may rule septic shock as the cause of death in a person, but it may be the result of a serious injury, such as a stab wound or trauma to the body.
