If complications from Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) increase with childbirth, rather than attempting a vaginal birth why is a C-section not more appropriate? The author Virginia Lynch in her book “Forensic Nursing” doesn’t seem to address this option. Is this culturally not acceptable? It would seem to me that a C-section would then eliminate any further ethical problems concerning resuturing made by the husband or other family members.
