There has been a recent recall by Castleberry’s Food Products related to four cases of people being injured by the neuro-toxin botulism bacteria. This is food poisoning of the rarest and most severe type. It induces botulism, which paralyzes respiratory and other skeletal muscles by displacing acetylcholine on its receptors. No neurotransmitter means no movement. Apparently Castleberry has a number of products being recalled because of this outbreak. Botulism was confirmed in the hot dog chili, but the stew, hash and dog food have been recalled. Now that I think about it, it is a little disconcerting that a company that makes canned meats for human consumption also makes dog food. Large risk factor there. Apparently when there is a confirmation of botulism, the medical personnel contact the CDC and they contact the FDA. The public is then informed of the situation. However, some of these cans have started exploding. Is the public aware that botulism can be contracted if inhaled, swallowed or absorbed through the skin? Lets hope so. Botulism is also the key ingredient in Botox. There has been documentation that people have contracted botulism through overdoses of Botox. So they look much more youthful while on the ventilator……..
